Press Release, May, 2013 - Sand Creek Sports, Inc. will return for its 23rd year with longtime favorite mountain bicycle race series, the Ascent Cycling Series presented by KMC Chains.

The 2013 edition of the Series will again feature races at Bear Creek Terrace on Wednesdays, June 5th and July 31st along with racing at Palmer Park on June 26th and July 10th. Returning after a two year absence, the Series will revisit Cheyenne Mountain Sate Park on Saturday, July 20th.

Race Entry Information

Some of the top cyclists in the area will return to the series, including defending their 2012 overall Ascent Cycling Series women's champion Tracy Thelen.

The Ascent Cycling Series is sponsored by Ascent Cycling, KMC Chains, Rotor USA, The O’Boyle Groups, Colorado Springs Visitor’s and Convention Bureau, Pro Gold Lubricants, Orthopedic Rehabilitation Associates, Borriello Brothers Real NY Pizza, PikesPeakSports.us and the Front Rangers Junior Cycling Team.

New for this year, the KMC Classic p/b Rotor USA will be held on Sunday, June 16th at the Council Grounds Picnic Area in Palmer Park. One of the most important bike racing in Colorado this year, this race is the Colorado Men’s State Championship Cross Country Race, one of just 24 USA Cycling American Mountain Bike Challenge races, an Alison Dunlap Junior Race Series event, USA Cycling’s Rocky Mountain Talent ID Race and a KMC Chain Podium Payback Program Race.

The KMC Classic p/b Rotor USA is a National Championship Qualification Race and will feature a Pro cash prize list and a cycling Expo at the Start/Finish.

The race is sponsored by KMC Chain, Rotor USA, Colorado Springs Visitor’s and Convention Bureau, US Bank, The O’Boyle Groups, Pro Gold Lubricant, Ascent Cycling, Front Range Orthopaedics, Borriello Brothers Real NY Pizza, the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Southern Colorado Velo, Pikes Peak Velo and Colorado Springs Health Partners.

The first race of 2013 on June 5th will be race number 86 in what is often referred to as, “The Never Ending Sand Creek Series.” Sand Creek Sports, Inc. has been organizing bicycle racing in the Pikes Peak Region of Colorado since 1991. Races organized include local Wednesday racing for our local Pro riders as well as first timers all with family cheering them on to State Championship criteriums and road races to Pro XCT mountain bike races on the UCI International Calendar.
