Start of the Cheyenne Mountain Trail Run 25K

Great race in the Cheyenne Mountain Trail Run 25K on Saturday, April 28, in Cheyenne Mountain State Park. Pete Maksimow of Manitou and Tommy Manning of Colorado Springs hammered away at the front before Maksimow pulled away to take the win (1:46:04). Manning held on for second place (1:52:22), while Gerald Romero, 40, captured third with a time of 1:52:29.
The women's race was close until the final kilometers. Michele Suszek and Brandi Erholtz, members of the 2011 USA Mountain Running team, and Amy Friedman battled shoulder-to-shoulder before Suszek managed to get away on a downhill stretch. She hit the finish line in 1:58:22. Erholtz crossed in 2:02:04, with Friedman close behind in 2:03:28.
