Start of the 2014 American Discovery Trail Marathon

Mario Macias, 32, of Boulder, followed his coach's orders and took it easy during the early miles of the 2014 American Discovery Trail Marathon on Labor Day. The plan was the gradually pick up his pace. By Mile 15, he had taken the lead and cruised to the win in the race record time of 2 hours, 24 minutes, 10 seconds.
Charles Hillig, 28, of Denver finished in 2:40:54, followed by Gary Krugger, 29, Flagstaff, Ariz., in 2:44:18.
In the women's race, Brittni Hutton, 24, Colorado Springs, had planned to run the half marathon, then changed her mind and jumped into the full 26.2 about 12 hours before the race start.
Good choice. She took the win with a time of 2:57:25. Kristin Louderback, 32, of Denver, was second in 3:01:02, with Greeley's Heather Utrata close behind in 3:02:18.
