PikesPeakSports.us Triple Crown Runners race team members Amy Perez and Aaron Atwood of Colorado Springs talk about their experiences training and racing in the Triple Crown. Amy will run the "double," the Ascent and Marathon on back-to-back days. The double is one of the toughest challenges in all of running. She said she'll focus on the Ascent and try for a personal-best time of 3 hours, 30 minutes. Aaron, who is running the Pikes Peak Ascent for the first time said he wants to tag the summit in less than four hours.
The Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon begin in Manitou Springs. The Ascent ends at the summit of 14,115-foot pikes Peak. The marathon takes runners to the mountain's top and back to Manitou. The course follows famous Barr Trail, gaining 7,815 feet.
