Manitou Springs' Peter Maksimow wins Greenland Trail 50k
Peter Maksimow took an early lead and never looked back in the Greenland Trail 50k on Saturday at the Greenland Open Space near Larkspur. Maksimow finished in 3:25:14, about two minutes off of the course record set by Justin Ricks in 2009.
"Getting the record was the goal, but on that last lap I was getting fatigued. Maksimow, who placed 8th in the Pikes Peak Ascent last year, said he had only gone 50K (31 miles) one other time in a training run. In the women's 50k, Melanie Fryar of Greenwood Village took the win in 4:03:30.
