I first met Daniel Gade, a true American Hero in Colorado Springs back in 1999 when our families were attending the same church. A remarkable athlete and man of great character, we became friends through our common bonds of faith and family.
Major Daniel Gade is a 1997 graduate of West Point and owns two Purple Hearts for his service in and arouond the region of Rhamadi. Dan's life-changing event came when he was hit by a roadside bomb while serving in Iraq on January 10th, 2005. Doctors were forced to amputate his right leg at the hip, a decision that put his life on a different track.
The one thing I know about Daniel Gade, he is cut from a different cloth. His heart is as big as they come and he is a man with determination and drive. A great family man, Dan's wife Wendy is also a woman of great faith and resolve. Two lives who we would all benefit from emulating.
Prior to his service, Daniel competeted in Marathons and other Multi-Sport events. But is it Triathlon where Daniel is beginning to make his mark on the sport.
On this Memorial Day as I reflect on those who have served our great country and given their lives for us to enjoy the freedoms we do, I also am reminded of those great Americans who continue to give of themselves. Daniel Gade, you are a true American Hero.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart and best of luck to you in 2010.
