Winter Series III: Riding the Storm Out

Winter Series III: Riding the Storm Out

One thing is for sure, there is no false advertising in the Winter Series.
About 500 runners dived face first into a single-digit windchill on Saturday in the Winter Series III races on the Santa Fe Trail near Monument.
They finished their runs with frost-coated eye lashes and numb toes and fingers.
The Winter Series includes short-course and long-course divisions. The long-course runners on Saturday were to have completed a 10-mile run, but race organizers shortened the distance to 5 miles. The short-course runners also completed a 5-mile course.
Logan Wealing and Rochelle Persson captured the short-course titles, Wealing finished in 28 minutes, 47 seconds, setting an age-group (30-34) record. It was his second win of the series.
Persson claimed her fist win in three Winter Series starts, clocking 35:37, the quickest time of the day among the women.
Ryan Hafer won again in the long course race, finishing in 28:23 (the fastest time of the day). Hafer is undefeated in the Winter Series with one race to go.
Stephanie Meredith took her second-consecutive win, mushing over the snow-packed course in 36:42.
