From the Boulder Daily Camera
Davis Phinney knows the thrill of competing at cycling's most elite levels in front of large Colorado crowds better than anyone.
Nearly a quarter of century after the Red Zinger/Coors Classic glory days came to an end, the local legend felt a podium-like high when the USA Pro Cycling Challenge announced that next August's race will include Boulder as a host city.
"To have a race of this magnitude coming back even bigger and stronger than the Coors Classic, I couldn't be more excited for fans of cycling and people who have had a history with Boulder," Phinney said during a recent interview with the Camera. "I feel like we deserve to have the race here and I'm just glad it all worked out with the race organizing committee."
Which begs the question: Will the 2012 USA Pro Cycling Challenge work out with Taylor Phinney's schedule?
"He wants to come here this coming year," Davis Phinney said.
