Bring on the Garden of the Gods 10 mile race

So the Garden of the Gods 10 mile race is a few days away. When it comes to race day, I always like to think I am prepared, I have been running, doing some cross training and even ran parts of the Garden of the Gods course a few times, but I never truly know if I am prepared until after running a race.

It might not make sense, but once I am done running a race, I can assess the outcome and myself. How did my legs feel during the race, was I able to push myself, or did I push to hard and run out of energy too soon etc.

My goal for this race is to run around a 1:30-1:45. The only reason my gap is so large is because I have never raced this kind of a hilly course before so I don’t know what to expect. I am use to a lot of flat road courses, and normally, I can guess my time within in a few minutes.

For the most part, I know the course and what to expect, but race day for me is always different than my training runs. One thing I know I need to work on is my start, I start out way to fast because I get excited with all the fans and people cheering us on, then about half way I need to pull back because I am tired and pushed to hard in the beginning. Let’s just say running a steady consistent pace is a work in progress for me.

So the next few days for me, consist of a few more easy runs with some cross training, making sure I am staying hydrated, and trying to eat a consistent three meals a day which can sometimes be hard in the news business depending on where your story takes you.

In the end, my goal is to have a good race and a fun time knowing I have team members not only running in the race, but also there cheering me on!

Good luck to all my team members and everyone else who is running the race too!

You, me and Sheva need to start together. We'll just see how we feel from there! It'll be fun!
