About

Tim Bergsten created this Ning Network.

Train your core and the rest will follow.  The best advice that any coach or trainer can give an athlete, or someone just looking to loose some weight and get a little healthier is to start with your core.  All of our movements from activities of daily living to advanced athletic maneuvers begin with our lower back and abdominal muscles.  The stronger your core muscles the better your balance, the more endurance you will have for long distance sports, the quicker you will be able to react or respond on a ski hill or a mountain bike, and the less pain you will feel on a daily basis.  Being able to train for endurance events or team sports puts a lot of stress on our bodies, the stronger your core the better your posture will be, which allows our bodies to stay properly aligned and function like they were designed to.

If you are not currently participating in any resistance training that focuses on your core muscles, start slowly.  Add some exercises to your routine that focus on strengthening your lower back and your abdominal muscles.  Make sure to balance the exercises so you are not focusing more on one area than the other.  Just practicing good posture and sitting up straight while seated will help you to see a difference, just remember to keep those abdominal muscles engaged as much as possible.   Every movement starts at the core and our bodies natural alignment is centered at our lumbar spine, so strengthen your foundation and watch yourself feel better, train stronger, and feel less pain and fewer injuries.
