Fathers Day on Pikes Peak

Even though my own father passed away over a year and a half ago, i still like to keep up our tradition of going up Pikes Peak every Fathers day.

This was my first time clear up on Barr Trail since the race last year, as is the case most years. This year was different due to complete lack of any snow whatsoever.…

Lumbering In Leadville With Leaden Lungs

After a weekend biking in the lil flint hills of Kansas and then a weekend biking and running at home in the slightly bigger hills of Colorado Springs, it was finally time for this Marmot to head to the mountains for a full weekend of fun and adventure on foot! Early this year I signed up for my 3rd go at the Leadville Marathon- the snow-capped mountain views from…

My favorite TCR training run

In the Meet the Marmots team page I talked about my favorite run in the Pikes Peak region: a 10-11 mile loop connecting Red Rock Canyon Open Space to Section 16. I've been doing it regularly, especially…

Slow Return from the Braided Marmot

What happens when you lose your focus and balance for half a second when you are hiking?  You end up sliding down a hill feet first, busting your face open and breaking your shoulder in four places.  What started as a nice hike in December up to a hut outside Leadville with my husband ended up a little different than we had planned.  I lost my balance as I turned around after saying something to Brad and next thing I know I was hauling it down the hill – slam, crash, ouch! Brad slid down the…

40 Is The New 30

Don't look at your watch don't look at your watch. Just try to keep Emily (workout buddy from the Sunrise Striders training group! Hi Emily!) in sight for as long as it feels 'comfortable'. The pace doesn't matter. DON'T. LOOK. AT. YOUR. WATCH. Just get to the top of the hill without red-lining! Stay comfortable... You want to hold an effort on the hill that you can…

Garden of the Gods 10 Miler Race Report!

Race day always seems to arrive a little quicker than you want them to!

As I mentioned in my previous post, I was not back to running until April, and not ready for any running in the Garden for a few more weeks after that. Definitely not an ideal training plan for the Garden 10-Miler! I did my best though, and got in the Garden about 3 times a week, feeling a little better each time. My longest run since my injury was last Sunday, at 9 miles. It was a rather miserable slog, but I got…

Comebacks are Slow

It can take a long time to feel on top of your running, and approximately 2 seconds to come crashing down.

I started this year in the best running shape of my life. I had run regularly all winter, I started running twice a week with the Attack Pack which helped me get stronger on hills, and I was making big goals. My first Moab race, a 30k, was planned for March. I was going to do the Triple Crown Again, and also decided I would go for my first ultra.

At the beginning of…

meeting of the marmots, perfect 10

I got the opportunity  to meet my new fellow marmot teammates a few days before the first race of the Triple Crown Series that we where all going to blog about together.

We met father marmot Tim at the Garden of Gods, the venue of the first race, for our team photo shoot. I’d tweaked my knee a little bit at work that day after teaching yoga, spinning, and then a step aerobics class.

I felt a little ridiculous limping through the photo shoot trying to…

My debut as a Might Marmot wasn't as mighty as hoped, but at least I kicked butt in the toddler race

Today I ran in the spectacularly gorgeous Garden of the Gods 10 Mile race, kicking off my participation in the Triple Crown of Running as part of the Mighty Marmot race team. …

Garden of the Gods 10 miler, 2018 Race Report

Hello everyone, Brian McCarrie here with my Garden of the Gods 10 miler Race Report.

First of all, I was really nervous going into this run. It's been a while since I've run 10 miles and I honestly didn't know how it was going to turn out but in the end I didn't do horrible so that's good.

Here's how the day went.

Fortunately I didn't have any pre-race anxiety and was able to get a good nights sleep and I woke up at 6:00am feeling rested. I live right down the street…

Running the Triple Crown in 2018, I'm a Marmot!

I've run the Triple Crown before. I've actually run it several times. I've completed the Pikes Peak Ascent 5 times and the Pikes Peak marathon once. My best Ascent time is 4:12. That was 9 years ago. Since that time, for one reason or another, I've slipped away from running. Focusing on different activities from time to time. I've always been a mountain biker so I would ride my bike, I did Crossfit for a while, I would swim or go to the gym and do my own workouts but I've always loved…

Why Am I Doing This Again?

I was pretty sure I wouldn’t enter this year. I am slowing down allot at age 55 and that second race is pretty intimidating now that it’s a half marathon, but I was in need of some good “trail therapy”by the time i decided to enter the Pikes Peak Ascent. After entering the Ascent, i realized I was also in serious need of a few interim goals along the way to keep me on track, so here I am in the Triple Crown of Running once again.!…

Learning the Marmot Way

One year ago I was hoping to check out the new Garden of the Gods 10 mile course.

One year ago I thought at the very least I would be able to finish the new 10k course.

One year ago I couldn’t even volunteer for this race less than 5k from my house. Because I wasn’t sure if, instead of being happy to help all the excited racers at a fantastic local race,…

My first ever trail running race at Cheyenne Mountain
