Colorado Springs' Katie Compton wins another World Cup cyclocross race

Katie Compton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Trek Cyclocross) recorded her second elite women's win in a UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup race this season on Saturday in Koksijde, Belgium. Logan Owen (Bremerton, Wash./Team Redline) placed fifth in the juniors men's race.

Compton bested the 34-woman field, beating her closest competitor, Nikki Harris (GBR), by nearly 90 seconds. Compton completed the race in 44:10 while Harris was 1:27 behind her in second place. Sanne Cant (BEL) placed third, 29 seconds behind Harris. Amy Dombroski (Boulder, Colo./Young Telenet-Fidea Cycling Team) placed 11th, 3:31 behind Compton and Christine Vardaros(Wyckoff, N.J./ BABOCO Cycling Team) was one lap down.

After Saturday's race in Belgium, Compton, who won the world cup race in Plzen, Czech Republic in October, leads Sanne Van Paassen (NED), Harris and Helen Wyman (GBR) by 40 points apiece in the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup standings. After three of eight UCI Cyclo-cross World cup races, Compton has amassed 170 points while her chasers each have 130 points. Dombroski is in 14th place with 42 points. Kaitlin Antonneau (Racine, Wis./Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com) is on Dombroski's heels with 37 points. Maureen Bruno Roy (Arlington, Mass./Red Mill p/b Seven Cycles) has 17 points in 26th place while Vardaros has four points in 41st place.
