Click here and tell us why you run (or ride), be entered to win a PikesPeakSports.us T-shirt

Found this cool video on YouTube the other day. It's titled "Why Do You Run?" It's inspirational stuff. Figured we'd throw it out here on the Forum and ask PikesPeakSports.us members to share their reasons for running and riding.
The Pikes Peak Region has inspired people for hundreds or even thousands of years. It is a place for good ol' fashioned  introspection.
Next time you're out, ask yourself: Why do you run? Why do you ride? Then share your answers with us. Could make for some great reading. Who knows, your words may inspire others to lace 'em up and start down a new path.
Those who participate will be entered to win a PikesPeakSports.us T-shirt. We'll do the drawing on Oct. 26.
I'll go first. Why do I run? Because when I run I am 16 again and the world shines with possibility in every stride.

I run because its one of the ultimate tests of the human heart and spirit. It breaks us down, teaches us humility, and forces us to conquer our fear of another mile when we already have nothing left.
"Ride Like You Are 5"

That is the tag line a good friend labeled me with a number of years ago and I'd have to say, that's the core of why I ride. To reconnect with the amazing feeling of youth, exploration, wandering and powering myself up, over, around and through the amazingly beautiful city that we live in.

And it makes me grin...everytime!
I run because my best efforts are still in me.
Oh wow. I started running to lose weight. It was free (except for the spendy shoes). The weight loss hasn't happened yet, but it turns out I really like it a lot anyway. I like the mental challenge and I love the way I feel afterwards. The first 5k I ran, several years ago, I remember how incredible I felt when I was done...it was the most fantastic feeling! Since school started, something had to give and unfortunately, running (and several other things) fell by the wayside, and I find that I miss it. It was nice to have an hour or so just for me--didn't have to talk to anyone, see anyone, or be anything to anyone. The only bit of alone-time that was truly mine. I can't wait to get started again :)
I run because its mine exclusively, no one else's goals, needs, or wants. I run to remember who I am.
I run for peace of mind. All my troubles and stress seem to drift away in the dust behind me. The future and more positive moments lie ahead of me at my destination. Reaching a goal and having a feeling of accomplishment is what it's all about. Knowing that I've helped my mind, body and spirit by just putting one foot in front of the other makes it worthwhile and important to my life. Live to run, run to live!
Why do I run.I started running just to help keep the weight off and stay in shape. Now it has become a way of life for me the way it makes me feel. The people I meet now cause I run every tuesday at Jack Quinns.
I run because if i did not run i would not be sane. Running is everything to me, when life throws me curves i run . I completely free my mind and fall into another world . I discover how to be true to any choices i may make . Running allows my life to be mine with every stride I take God bless running u r my life
WHY DO I RUN?

I run because I can. I do not suffer from a neuromuscular disease, cancer, MS, or any other illness that would not allow me to run or walk. There are hundreds upon thousands of men, women, and children that do suffer from such illness, and diseases that would love to run for just one day. The lord has given me the gift to run and a whole world to do it in and by not I am wasting that gift, and slapping those that cannot in the face.

I run because there is a world to explore. By getting out in the world and running I get to see the world from a whole new perspective. It allows me to take the time to notice the colors, smell’s, sounds, and hidden surprises that are everywhere. These things are always changing and so even if it’s the same route even a change in the time of day or time of year brings out something new and exciting. Races are always popping up in different places, which also give me opportunity to see a different town and explore it. It is pretty awesome to be out on a run and watch the sun rise from a mountainside, or crest a hill a see all the lights from town on your way back home.

I run because it helps strengthen the bond between my wife and I. By sharing our love of running my wife and I have lots of quality time together. We help encourage each other and push each other to do our best. My wife is my biggest fan and sometimes I don’t think I could finish some the races as strong as I have if it weren’t for her voice cheering me on at the finish. It makes me happy to see her digging it out and pushing hard at the end of a run or race and then feeling excited to have finished. It makes the adventure all the more special when you have someone special to share it with. Running helps bring my wife and I closer.

I run because it makes me a better person. Running helps one find inner strength, motivation, courage, determination, and endurance and apply it. There are no motivational speakers, books, or Dr. Phil shows to glean this from it has to come from inside yourself and you have to find it. Once all of these pieces come together your only limitation is you. Running has been a vehicle for me to do this and for that I am not only a better runner, but also a better person.

I run because I hope to inspire. I hope to inspire my children and be a role model. I don’t need them to be runners, but if they happen to be so then awesome, I just hope to inspire them to get out and be active and healthy. I hope that by sharing my running stories with friends, co-workers, and family and by them witnessing that a person can train and work and set goals that I inspire them to also be active an healthy.

I run because it therapeutic. Running is one of my best coping skills and helps me deal with stress, sadness, or whatever life throws at me. It feels good to go out on a run and be able to purge yourself of all of this and return new. Its not running from my problems but running them out.

I guess running is more to me that just a sport its like a best friend that has always been there. I can’t imagine my life without running and will continue to do so as long as I am able. I appreciate you reading this and if you aren’t a runner I hope it inspires you and others to get out, lace up, and go for a run.

Why do I run?

I run because whether in a race or out on the trail training it is a one time adventure that I will never experience again. Running is about the excitement and nervousness at the start of the race. You never know what to expect within each race and if you will be running faster or slower than your last race.

Running is about the adventure of knowing that for those few hours in time, within the race you will never be in that place and time ever again. It allows you for a few hours to have a bit of control over your life. You choose if you need to speed up, slow down, stride or glide your pace, but you choose. No one else is making that decision for you.

Running is a Blessing and is extremely Spiritual. Every time I run for training or within a race, it is an opportunity to Thank God that I have been blessed physically, mentally, and emotionally to overcome various forms of pain my body endures during that few hours of running. It amazes me sometimes at how we as runners push our bodies to extremes that cannot be understood by others who question why we do what we do.

Running is about finding perfect harmony and balance in life for those few hours. Running is the only sport that I know of where you can run in perfect unison with a total strangers for miles at a time borrowing their pace, along with lending them your pace without saying a word but knowing that you all are somewhat tied to one another along with counting on one another to pull you through those tough miles when you feel as though you have nothing left to give.
