Stapanowich is an accomplished ultra runner who prefers difficult challenges. He clocked the fastest known time for a "self-supported" thru hike of the 485-mle Colorado Trail last summer, finishing in 9 days, 14 hours, 28 minutes. He followed that up with a solo 100-mile run on Pikes Peak - four trips to the summit and back - in August. His Pikes Peak run included about 31,000 feet of elevation gain. He finished in 30 hours, 7 minutes. And he is one of a few adventurists/ultra athletes who have completed the Nolan's 14 challenge - climbing 14 14ers from Mt. Massive to Mt. Shavano, all in less than 60 hours. He and Gavin McKenzie teamed up to keep themselves moving, and checked in at the finish below Shavano in 56 hours, 19 minutes.
