Start of the XTERRA Marathon and Half Marathon

Good look at the start of the XTERRA Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday, Sept. 22, in Cheyenne Mountain State Park.
Alejandro Rocqu Venzor (29, Colorado Springs) won the marathon with a time of 3:57:47. Akash Johnson (22, Centennial) was second in 4:23:54, followed by Erik Kuhlmann (26, Staunton, Va.) in 4:36:02.
In the women's race, Connilee Walter (40, Colorado Springs) took the win in 4:29:32. Walter, who said she is training for a rim-to-rim-to-rim run in the Grand Canyon, placed third overall. Laura Nichols (29, Colorado Springs) was second in 5:00:53, while 44-year-old Cathi Webber of Colorado Springs ran home in 5:05:27.
The half marathon played out like this: Men, 1. Dan Vega (45, Colorado Springs) 1:32:26; 2. Gerald Romero (42, Colorado Springs) 1:35:53; 3. Daniel Rowe (29, Denver) 1:39:29.
Women, 1. Rochelle Persson (42, Colorado Springs) 1:50:03, 2. Shelly Nelson (34, Denver) 1:57:16, 3. Alison Brown (28, Boulder) 1:57:49.
5K results: Men, 1. Pete Maksimow (34, Manitou Springs) 20:45, 2. Eddie Bollman (27, Colorado Springs) 23:25, 3. Jason Morgan (34, Colorado Springs) 25:18.
Women: 1. Barbara Palmer (50, Colorado Springs) 28:14.2, 2. Maia Austin (15, Colorado Springs) 28:14.4, 3. Heather Seal (19, Lynchburg, Va.) 29:38.
