This is real, the Pikes Peak Ascent is almost here

In just few days, all of my training will be put to the test. I could sit here and reflect on all of my training, but that won’t change a thing. A lot of people ask me if I feel ready, and I say ask me on Saturday after I am done the race.

I have to say, I almost wish the race were now; I am way to excited and just want to run it and finish it! Since this is my first time running the Ascent, I have decided to set a reasonable goal.

I would like to finish the race in about 5 to 5 ½ hours.  I have completed the entire course once and it took me around 5:30, but I made some lengthy stops along the way. Now that I know the course I like to think I can pace myself. However, I know it will also depend on how I am feeling that day when I wake up.

The next few days, I plan to work on my core strength, lots of stretching, and tons of water.  I want to make sure I am rested and ready for this race, because this is the hardest half marathon I have ever trained for but I know it will be the most rewarding one to finish too!

I hope on Sunday morning, I will be able to look up at Pikes Peak and say "yea I ran that and got the awesome t-shirt to prove it!"
