Winter is almost here, and so is the holiday season (I can't believe I'm even writing that already). I'm getting my list together and for the men who like to bundle up and get outside for some fun winter sports, such as snowboarding, skiing, or zooming through the slush in a snowmobile, I've been looking up the hottest gifts to give these snow addicts.
Snowboards are the most likely Christmas gifts because (a) they can fit under a tree and (b) you’re more likely to be able to afford them.
A kid’s beginner snowboard will cost you around $125 or so, while an adult beginner snowboard may run from $250 to $300. Figure on jumping up $50 to $100 for each level up – from beginner to intermediate to advanced models.
Skis, not surprisingly, aren’t cheap – nor would you want them to be, quality-wise. A good pair of kids’ skis starts at around $215, and adult skis start at around $400 and go up, up, up from there. You’re only going to want to buy skis for someone you really love.
Same goes for snowmobiles, to say the least, which end up being a gift to the whole family, depending on where you live).
Some of the top manufacturers of snowmobiles are Ski-Doo, Arctic Cat, Yamaha and Polaris. Price-wise, we’re talking decent used-car prices here ($7,000 to $12,000 or more), so it goes without saying that buying a snowmobile is a really big deal. (If a snowmobile is out of the question, go for the snowmobile gear!)
You can always look on Craigslist for a really good deal on a used one, but if you’re considering a snowmobile as a holiday gift, don’t you want something shiny and new? (Not that it’ll stay that way for long, but still…)
Anyway you choose to do it, here’s hoping you and your family have a happy, sporty holiday this year!
