I've heard about going up to Barr Camp for years now. It's a very common training route for those getting ready for Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon.
But, until today, I had not done the full route from base of mountain to Barr Camp. I did take the cog once last year to Mountain View, stopped by Barr Camp en route to the Peak.
I've run to the top of the W's several times. I've done a workout at the top of the Peak to treeline (top 3 miles). But, I hadn't been…

It seemed like such a great idea.
Three hundred and sixty five days of something.
The idea came to me while I was riding my mountain bike. I was picking my way through an icy trail in Palmer Park. “Wouldn’t it be cool to do something like this every day?” I thought to…

This year I had the honor of being a part of the inaugural PikesPeakSports.us Sand Creek Cycling Team. Along with my teammate Tracy Thelen – I participated in the full season of the Ascent Cycling Series under the
direction of Andy Bohlmann and Sand Creek Sports.
Throughout the season I blogged often about the significance…

While my Pikes Peak Sports team mate Cameron has been on a roll, winning almost everything in sight, it was different end to season for me. I also raced at 24 Colorado Springs this year - my first time for this race. Last year, Nick raced solo single speed and I ran his pit. This year, we stuck together for our Duo Mixed attempt at a Stars and Stripes Jersey. We knew it was…

I had been excited about 24 hour Nationals for months. Ever since I made the commitment to race back in the late Spring all of my riding had been with the aim to go as fast as I could around and round the 13 mile lap in Palmer Park. Of course I was motivated to try and win the title on home turf and represent in front of so many friends, family and other supporters. Having…

The Attack Pack and friends ready to take on the Falcon Trail in the dark.
Whenever I sign up for new race distances or athletic endeavors, I always envision feeling far more "ready" when race day/week/month actually arrives. The time between signing up and executing stretches on forever, week upon week of mythical training runs cascading into the future,…

No, this isn't yet another post regarding the great "Listening to Your iPod While Running" debate. This post is to address a trend I've been noticing out on the trail. I've seen this most commonly on Barr Trail though I've come across it elsewhere as well. I've been…

For the record: I'm not a fast runner. I'm a solid middle-of-the-packer who sometimes makes it into the top third in my age group. Part of that is the remarkable running community in this town. You people are talented, and more ambitious runners keep arriving all the time. (Take my friend Scott Spillman, who moved to town late last year. He won the …

Well it's interesting that back in the hey day of mountain bike innovation there was one thing that never truly was tackled well, the dirt drop. Chucky Cunningham and the boys at WTB (Wilderness Trail Bikes, pre-Global empire) offered the much loved and sought after, WTB Dirt Drop. $50 for the handlebar in a day when handlebars didn't cost $50. Yet they figured out special stems and shifter pods to slap your thumbies on for them. Can't hardly find a pic of a Cunningham bike without a dirt…
