A BQ on a Broken Ankle

Nothing was shaping up in my favor, as I road the bus to the starting line of the Colorado Marathon. The weather was snowy and cold to start. During the week, I had begun looking for other marathons that I could run to Boston Qualify, in the event that my time was affected by the impeding crappy weather. I'm not sure why I was so concerned, considering that some of my best racing has happened during the winter months. As I finally stepped off the bus, with only minutes to spare, I decided to…

Does King Kong Wear Nikes?

There are exactly 19 days to what I feel like will be my first marathon. Sure, I’ve actually done two before, but I didn’t train for either, trotted along with no regard for time and even stopped for beer at various points along the way. My best time was four hours and forty fun minutes. This time, it’s much, much different.

This time, I’ve terrifyingly publicized my goal of attempting to qualify for the Boston marathon,…

Race Week!! Pikes Peak Ascent and my plan.

Race week is finally here! I’m excited to see what all this training yields on Saturday when I race the Ascent. This will be my 8th attempt in either the Pikes Peak Marathon or Ascent. I’ve had less than stellar results in the past. I was never able to race to my level of fitness during the first 6 attempts before finally having a breakthrough in attempt #7. As a…

Being "strong".

People talk about being "strong". I hear, "you are so strong" a lot. I know it is meant as both a compliment and a way of encouraging me to remain "strong" (whatever that means). It is not that I do not appreciate people believing in me. I need people in my life who have my back. We all do. However, it all makes me feel a little uncomfortable. I wonder, if I express fear or sadness, will I no longer be "strong"? I wonder how our society…

Inca Trail Marathon to Machu Picchu - Andes Adventures

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Whiw-vKEp4k

Do  not be misled! There is no "official" Inca Trail Marathon. There cannot be because the Inca Trail is in a National Park. We organized our first Inca Trail Marathon in 1996.…

Just another fine day on the mountain

The Pikes Peak Ascent is over and another Triple Crown Series is done! This year was quite special and being chosen for the PikesPeakSports.us Triple Crown Runners team was definitely the icing on the cake!

I am not sure how many people have even been reading the blogs, but in a way it does not matter. It has been rewarding for me to write and, again, I thank Tim, Ron,…

Jason Delaney felt the joy of victory. He already knew the pain of running the 2012 Pikes Peak Ascent all too well.

Addictions lead to withdrawls

I made a decision to take a few days of from my running and let my legs heal.  My left shin has been giving me a little trouble when I am running down hill, so I figured a few days off from running would do me some good.

Like an addict, when you don't feed your addiction you get withdrawals.  All you think about is when you will get your next fix.  So as I am sitting here on the couch, I am getting the antsy feeling and all I can think about is:

First marathon a little freaky, a lot of fun

By Vanessa Warren

As I walked through the American Discovery Trail Expo, I noticed a table with various stickers, including one that read, “Marathon Freak.” I laughed to myself knowing this sticker did NOT describe me, but rather should have read, “Freak Marathon,” which is what I was…
