Two Legs Under Me

The Summer Roundup was a lot of fun and great to see the rest of the team again. For six people who just came together by chance, we’re a fun bunch if I do say so. At the end, there was JT, looking dapper in his lucky Schlitz hat. Anyone else remember Schlitz? He had this amazing, Emergency Energy Recovery and Rescue Kit. It resembles a cooler. Ahh, that ice could be so soothing on the knees but it serves a higher purpose of  cooling down the even more soothing barley-pops…

Roundup runners pleased to be back in familiar groove

Competitors were just happy to be able to run in the 13th installment of the Summer Roundup Trail Run 12-kilomter race Sunday in southwest Colorado Springs after the cancellation of the upcoming Barr Trail Mountain Race due to the recent Waldo Canyon Fire.

“It’s important to the racing community,” said local running icon Gerard Romero. “I was really glad…

A Gem of a Day for the Crown

One jewel of the Triple Crown in hand (Garden of the Gods 10-mile Run) I pursue the next, the Summer Round-Up.

Since every successful running team needs someone to run the anchor leg, I am officially declaring myself the…

Taper Time

Ran the entire GOG 10 mile course on Friday, June 1 for the third and final time. A good, former long-distance running friend said “You know you should start tapering two weeks before any race.” Oops, I’m kinda inside that timeframe aren’t I. I’ve taken a couple of runs, just under 5 miles, with the great group of people who meet in the Garden every Tuesday and Thursday morning. For me, that means getting up at 5 a.m. but boy is it worth it to watch the creeping sunrise gradually paint…

Sprucing UP

The Ascent looks even farther away from here, atop Spruce Mountain just north of Palmer Lake. As mentioned before, this is one of my favorite places to run (5.3 mile loop) and this is just one of the great views this trail provides. This vantage spot is called Windy Point, with Mt. Herman in the foreground and Pikes Peak behind. This visit…

It's in my genes...

Well, my last paper has been submitted, and my final exam complete. For better or worse, finals are over and I no longer have an excuse to put off my training. My brain is still feeling a little fried, though, and I'm honestly at a complete loss as to where to even begin. Every time I see Pikes Peak, I get this rush of excitement for the Ascent, but it's always followed by a millisecond of feeling sheer terror in the pit of my stomach.

Right now, though, I’m more nervous for the…

It's a Bear

Ran the Summer Roundup Trail Run route today (5/15). This is the best part, coming down High Drive after going up for the first 3.8 miles before turning around. I don't want to tell you what my time was because I don't want my competitors to have an unfair advantage. I wouldn't want them to know that they can stop and have a leisurely lunch at the…

To say the outcome of the Paint mines 6k trail run in Calhan was a surprise is an understatement.  I truly didn’t have any expectations other than get a good run in on a new to me…
