Love Hate Relationship with the Incline

Why does everyone love the Incline?  To my readers please answer this.

The negatives:

  • I can't run up the thing so I am just walking
  • To many people, unless it is the winter time or the weather is bad
  • Top section of the trail still needs repair and is one big hazard

The positives:

  • One hell of a leg work out

As you can see I dislike the Incline more than I love it.  Just the other day the attack pack running…

A BQ on a Broken Ankle

Nothing was shaping up in my favor, as I road the bus to the starting line of the Colorado Marathon. The weather was snowy and cold to start. During the week, I had begun looking for other marathons that I could run to Boston Qualify, in the event that my time was affected by the impeding crappy weather. I'm not sure why I was so concerned, considering that some of my best racing has happened during the winter months. As I finally stepped off the bus, with only minutes to spare, I decided to…

Does King Kong Wear Nikes?

There are exactly 19 days to what I feel like will be my first marathon. Sure, I’ve actually done two before, but I didn’t train for either, trotted along with no regard for time and even stopped for beer at various points along the way. My best time was four hours and forty fun minutes. This time, it’s much, much different.

This time, I’ve terrifyingly publicized my goal of attempting to qualify for the Boston marathon,…

As some say “Teamwork makes the dream work”

I’ve have always been an athlete ever since I can remember. Which also means I have been on countless teams. Being on a team means everything to me. It’s not only a family, but it’s also a group of people working together to obtain a common goal.  Some of my closest friends are people I met on some of the sports teams I played on.

Growing up I was on the cross-country, basketball, and surf team. But once I tore my ACL playing basketball during my senior year of high school,…

It's All About the Benjamins

Whoever said running is a cheap sport never:

a.)    Participated in many races

b.)    Ran year round in seasonal weather

c.)     Ran long distances

d.)    Had an affinity for Lulu Lemon running crops

e.)    All of the above

The correct answer is all of the above.

Sure, you could throw on a pair of ol “sneaks” and hit the road for a mile or three. Running is easy, running is cheap, just throw on what you have and walk out your door, no…

The Oklahoma Road Trip report: Shoes delivered ... thanks, Colorado Springs!

I rolled down the window and cranked up the Rock ‘n’ Roll at 3:15 a.m. as Shawn Finley and I blasted out of Colorado Springs on Saturday morning.

Our destination: Moore, Okla., a green, tree-filled city raked by a killer tornado on May 20.

I pulled a U-Haul trailer full of new and used running shoes, all donated by the awesome folks in the Colorado Springs…

What a year!

While my Pikes Peak Sports team mate Cameron has been on a roll, winning almost everything in sight, it was different end to season for me. I also raced at 24 Colorado Springs this year - my first time for this race. Last year, Nick raced solo single speed and I ran his pit. This year, we stuck together for our Duo Mixed attempt at a Stars and Stripes Jersey. We knew it was…

24 Hour Nationals and 2012 season wrap up

I had been excited about 24 hour Nationals for months. Ever since I made the commitment to race back in the late Spring all of my riding had been with the aim to go as fast as I could around and round the 13 mile lap in Palmer Park. Of course I was motivated to try and win the title on home turf and represent in front of so many friends, family and other supporters. Having…

Telluride

After reading my fellow Pikes Peak Sports Triple Crown team member, Jon Teisher's post about Salida, I feel compelled to write about my favorite mountain town - Telluride. Up until last August I had never been, but after a week-long visit I was hooked. Now I commit myself to that six-hour drive every chance I get, and made the trek last Wednesday for another week. I was there for Mountainfilm (an amazing and awe-inspring film festival), and spent more time in theaters watching…

73 miles and 7.5 hours to Think a Little

Since I built my monstercross rig up it's begged the question of how far and where could I ride. It's become the true all around bike my mountain bike used to be. My first 10 years of mtbing was done on 1.9 to 2.1 tires with 2.1 seemingly "way big" at the time. But then again, I was riding it everywhere. To the trails, on the road, gravel roads, and wherever. But with small tires, steeper angles, bigger gears...you could. Now though my mtb has a 150mm fork up front, 39/26 gearing up…

My journey to being a cyclist in Colorado Springs

Cycling. It's something that's been near and dear to my heart since I was a child building trails to ride on when I was just 9 years old back home in MN. I guess that's where I started to get spoiled with ease of access to trails. In '87 I stopped riding my bmx bike on trails we made in my neighborhood and started riding my dad's Schwinn Cruiser "5 speed"....big wide handlebars....with the shifter right at the stem for some God forsaken reason. Two years later in '89 I made the biggest purchase… Continue
