Running My Second Triple Crown with a New Approach

Hi there. My name is Susanna Barnwell. I am doing my second Triple Crown this year and have been asked to blog about my experiences with the running program I am using to accomplish my goals. So why read my musings? Well, we hear from pros and trainers and industry specialists all the time, but not the regular every day runners out there who…

Eight weeks and a wake up!

Are there really only eight weeks until the Pikes Peak Ascent?

Somewhere along the way, I added a week in my mind, so I had a minor freakout earlier this week when I realized I'd been counting wrong!

I'd been feeling pretty confident about my training, but after learning I'd lost a week, I began panicking that I wasn't doing enough.  Thoughts turned to: I didn't start Ascent training early enough (an injury…

Race Week!! Pikes Peak Ascent and my plan.

Race week is finally here! I’m excited to see what all this training yields on Saturday when I race the Ascent. This will be my 8th attempt in either the Pikes Peak Marathon or Ascent. I’ve had less than stellar results in the past. I was never able to race to my level of fitness during the first 6 attempts before finally having a breakthrough in attempt #7. As a…

Ai-Yi-Yi

Well, here we go again, a third stab at that great sentinel above Colorado Springs. I mentioned to someone that I was part of a group attempting the Ascent again and this person, a very nice person mind you, never says a bad word about anyone, said "Yeah, I know" and then I distinctly heard them mutter, under their breath "Crazy fools."

Yup, crazy alright, seeing how fast one can haul their butt up a mountain and yet, somehow, in some peculiar way, it just gets in your blood and you…

Cam Chambers: Sand Creek Sports creating the 'best' mountain bikers

By Cam Chambers

This year I had the honor of being a part of the inaugural PikesPeakSports.us Sand Creek Cycling Team. Along with my teammate Tracy Thelen – I participated in the full season of the Ascent Cycling Series under the

direction of Andy Bohlmann and Sand Creek Sports.

Throughout the season I blogged often about the significance…

Oh What a Feeling

Wow! There’s a word that’s almost as overused as awesome. However it succinctly sums up all of my feelings in one, tidy, three-letter word. The Ascent was the exclamation point on one of the best experiences I’ve ever had, i.e. participating in all three Triple Crown runs. I can heartily recommend these three runs to anyone who is seeking a…

Just another fine day on the mountain

The Pikes Peak Ascent is over and another Triple Crown Series is done! This year was quite special and being chosen for the PikesPeakSports.us Triple Crown Runners team was definitely the icing on the cake!

I am not sure how many people have even been reading the blogs, but in a way it does not matter. It has been rewarding for me to write and, again, I thank Tim, Ron,…

Delaney savors victory after a painful Ascent

PIKES PEAK ASCENT RESULTS HERE

Jason Delaney felt the joy of victory. He already knew the pain of running the 2012 Pikes Peak Ascent all too well.

The Golden resident won the men’s race up America’s Mountain in 2 hours, 13 minutes and 18 seconds for his first victory in his third…

Bear Creek Terrace

Three of the Ascent Cycling Series races are held at Bear Creek Terrace, right in the shadow of the mountains. This was the traditional location for the Wednesday night races for the last three years, so many COS riders are familiar with the trails. We usually use Bear Creek as a pass through - a bit of single track before continuing up the Regional Trail to destinations further afield. The courses at Bear Creek Terrace don't seem challenging on intial inspection, but I've always found them…

Counting down to the Ascent Cycling Series

Less then two weeks until the start of mountain bike racing in Colorado Springs - the Ascent Cycling Series organized by Sand Creek Sports. Race season always seems to come so quickly - from plotting schedules in January while training in the snow to toeing the line in sunshine in June - and this year has been no different. Feels like it was just February and Tim and Andy…
