Never a Wasted Day in the Mountains - Ascent 2018

I’ve been writing this blog in my head for the last week or so. Talking to folks about their race and then reading comments online it was like there were two different races going on. I prefer to look at the positive side. The last race of the Triple Crown 2018, The Pikes Peak Ascent AKA the Barrcent, was Saturday, August 18th. The Pikes Peak Marathon went off without a hitch on Sunday, August 19th. With the ridiculous weather the two weeks prior to the race and the evening before with…

Mt. Washington for the fourth time...but not how you think.

I find myself sitting once more in Sharon's kitchen this morning in her awesome little house hidden in the Intervale, NH woods.

Seriously. It's hidden. I get completely lost and turned around in literally one square mile trying to find the driveway every. Single. Year. All the neighbors know me now because of my annual pulling into their driveway with my brights on in the dead of night trying to determine if their's is the correct house. Miraculously, I haven't been shot at…

Unforgetable year at 2018 Pikes Peak Ascent

The third and final leg of the 2018 Triple Crown of running is in the record books now, the Pikes Peak Ascent.

It’s old news by now, but due to the inclement weather forecast, the race was shortened to end at Barr Camp.  The day before the race large hail pummeled Manitou Springs, damaging vehicles and frightening race participants, reminding race directors, volunteers, and race veterans all too much of the blizzard of 2008 that hit on Ascent day that year.

    I…

Are You Going To Race, They Ask The Marmot...

The party is almost here! The weekend when all of the runners I know are gathering in Manitou Springs to show off their training. To volunteer and support their friends and family. To earn their finisher's shirts or jackets. To celebrate completing a huge challenge, whether it's their 1st or 15th time. It's always a challenge.  It's the final leg of the Triple Crown of Running. The…

Well, It's Here

This morning I went on my last run before the Pikes Peak Ascent on Saturday. I kept it short (3.5 miles) and somewhat hilly but not technical. My legs are feeling pretty good, and I'm trying to get as much rest as I can and drink lots of water.

Training the last few weeks has mostly consisted of consistent hilly runs, anywhere from 4 to 9 miles. I also hiked the Devil's Playground trail a few weeks ago, not quite a summit but close. That's a laughable amount of time at altitude…

Marmot taking stock before the Pikes Peak Ascent

With only a few days until the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon (and the final leg of this year's Triple Crown of Running), I'm psyched.

Being selected as a…

Marmot On Cloud 9

It’s been just over a week since I finished my huge goal of 2018, the one that pushed me out of bed at 4:15am so I could be on the trails 2 hours before work.  The one that scared me into chasing my friends in the Sunrise Striders training group up steep hill repeats, gasping for breath but refusing to let everyone get away.  The one that made me give up my nightly wine and…

Countdown to Pikes Peak Ascent

Onlt 6 days away from the final leg of the Triple Crown, the Pikes Peak Ascent!

Though this year I sort of ended up doing this in a whim, I have no regrets after entering the Ascent one night after that extra glass of wine I indulged myself with while i gazed up at that mountain.…

50-year Olympic Marathon Celebration in Alamosa

The last weekend of July, my husband and I took a weekend road trip south(last time it was north) to Alamosa, Colorado and to then Taos New Mexico, one night at each venue.

We started our sight seeing by visiting Fort Garland Museum with friends Donna and Daryl, who also share a passion for sight seeing and are…
