I don't know how long this has been up, so if you don't mind a little salty language and some rather risque' bike photos, this is hilarious!  If it was a little smaller, I'd buy it just because of…Continue

The End Of An Error...

It seemed like such a great idea.Three hundred and sixty five days of something. The idea came to me while I was riding my mountain bike.  I was picking my way through an icy trail in Palmer Park.  “Wouldn’t it be cool to do something like this every day?” I thought to myself. The notion further coalesced into a plan when I decided I’d try to lose the last ten pounds I was packing on my gut. It would be fun to do a little cross-training.  I’m not much of a runner – in fact I was exclusively a…See More

Tweeting Trail Conditions

I don't know if anyone else is doing this, but I've started tweeting trail conditions using hash tags.  For now, I've created #FalconTrail and #RidePalmerPark.  (Apparently, the hash tag 'PalmerPark refers to a rather rough neighborhood somewhere, not sure where...).  Anyway, the thought I had while negotiating Falcon Trail was to keep riders up to date on trail conditions in the Pikes Peak area.  With winter approaching, it'll be nice to keep up on the freezes and thaws.  It could also be used…See More

Trying to run

I'm an avid mountain biker - single speeder.  I recently found out I've got a cracked frame.  While waiting for a warranty replacement, I've tried running.  Unfortunately, I wind up with a strained calf.  Trails, tracks, streets, it doesn't matter.  Anyone have any suggestions or hints on what I may be doing, or not doing correctly? Thanks! JonSee More

The lion eats the lamb...

Snow.

It’s March, for crying out loud.

As a point of explanation, I’ve lived in Colorado for almost 15 years. Add another 3 years in Albuquerque, NM, and I’m pushing 20 years in the mountain west. I’m well aware of the April (and May) snowstorms, and the August cold snaps.

I’ve gotten over my hatred of cold.  Growing up in Louisville, KY, in a time before Polar Fleece, I abhorred the cold.  In ’77 we had 2 feet of snow that shut down our southern town for 3 days – we…

It's in the air.

I saw it as I rounded the corner. I couldn’t miss it. Its brilliant yellow leaves were a stunning contrast against the green foliage surrounding it. “What the…?” It was mid-September. I was hot,

and caught me totally unawares.

Soon, I’ll be hot and sweaty with three layers of technical fabric

covering my extremities. Soon I’ll look

Slow Ride - take it easy...

“You OK?”

I hadn’t noticed the rider coming up behind me.

“Yeah, just looking for my lung” I replied, chuckling to myself at my standard reply.

She was probably a Falcon 100 rider, on her second lap. Maybe she was a Cat 2, just catching up to me. Whoever she was, she rode past quickly, just like everyone else had.

I started in the single speed category at the Rocky Mountain State Games. We rode Falcon Trail…
