The rain blew in sideways, escorting the first snow of the season to Colorado Springs. But it didn't stop 280 brave runners from competing in the third XTERRA Marathon of Trail Races on Oct. 8. Runners chose from three distances, a 5K, half marathon and full marathon. All took place on the tough single track at Cheyenne Mountain State Park.
Adam Rich (19:27) and Sarah Young (23:52), both of Colorado Springs, won the 5K. In the half marathon, Nicole Mahobian of Highlands Ranch won for the third time. She clocked 1:45:23. Dan Vega of Colorado Springs won the men's half in 1:37:36.
Brad Poppele of Colorado Springs captured the men's marathon title, making two laps of the 13.1-mile course in 3:45:05. It was his first win in a marathon. And Kerrie Bruxvoort of Broomfield won the women's marathon in 4:30:05.
