Happy Birthday, Achilles Pikes Peak!

Happy Birthday, Achilles Pikes Peak!

Five years ago my friend Brian McCarrie and I launched PikesPeakSports.us, the online magazine and social network for runners and cyclists. We knew then that our success depended on our willingness and ability to become active members in the outdoor community. We couldn't sit on the sidelines and observe. I think we wanted to help wherever our help was needed.
On Monday, PikesPeakSports.us returned to those roots by helping a small nonprofit grow a little. With great honor Michael Pharis (LYMevents), Justin Ricks (Mad Moose Events) and I were able to contribute $2,000 to Achilles Pikes Peak, a nonprofit organization that works to help disabled folks in the Pikes Peak Region to lead healthful and active lives.
We raised the money at the Cheyenne Mountain Trail Race on April 25. Many of the Achilles athletes volunteered their time and sweat to make the event happen.
Monday was also Achilles' 1-year birthday celebration, and a smiling group of about 40 folks came out to play in the rain and eat pizza and birthday cake at the Colorado Running Company.
Achilles Pikes Peak, under the leadership of Brandon Stapanowich, Anne Fleming and Zach Miller, is growing and doing great things in the community. Congrats to all and I hope we get to do all again next year.
