State High School Climbing Finals go Friday and Saturday at CityRock

CityRock Colorado Springs will host the Colorado High School Climbing League State Finals on February 25 and 26, 2011. This is an invitation-only event with invitations issued by region. A list of invitees is attached.

Featured individuals include twin siblings Graham and Michele Espenlaub of Pine Creek
High School, French exchange student Faustin Chabagno of Harrison High School, and
Tyler Youngwerth, Cheyenne Mountain High School student and member of the USA
Climbing team.

This is the third annual competition for the league whose mission is to promote
high school climbing around the state. In addition to schools from Colorado Springs,
Monument, Castle Rock and Denver, teams will be traveling from Grand Junction,
Ouray, Montrose, Ft.Collins and Carbondale to participate in the event.

To be invited to the State Finals, teams are selected by their respective regions. The top
individuals in each region are also invited to participate.

Competitors will have three hours to climb as many roped climbs and boulder problems
(lower climbs with no ropes) as they can. Their top five scores will be added together to
get a final score. Team scores are composed of the top three individual scores.

Competitions will be Friday, 2/25 from 6 – 9 PM for the Junior Varsity teams and
Saturday, 2/26 from 10 AM – 1 PM for the Varsity teams. The competition is free to
watch and spectators are encouraged to attend.
