It’s time to lace up the trail-running shoes again. The XTERRA Marathon of Trail Races is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8, at Cheyenne Mountain State Park and runners of all ages and skill levels can participate.
Race day registration at 6:30 a.m.!
The highlight of the event is a full-marathon course (26.2 miles) that includes nearly 3,000 feet of total climbing up the park's twisting single track. And the race is one of the prettiest on the Front Range.
There will also be a half-marathon (13.1 miles) and 5K course. Both the half-marathon and full-marathon courses will offer challenging uphill and downhill sections, with amazing views along the way.
Age-group awards will be presented for all three courses.
Race-day registration will also be available at the race site starting at 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 8.
On Friday, Oct. 7, the Whole Foods store at New Center Point in Colorado Springs will offer “carbo-loading specials,” such as pasta or pizza.
This Colorado event was introduced as a tribute to race Founder and Director Victoria Seahorn’s late best friend, Lindsey Gabe. Gabe was diagnosed with breast cancer and lost her battle in 2005 at the age of 60 in Colorado Springs. Seahorn created this event in her honor.
The Marathon of Trail Races will be the first of at least four races during the 2011-12 season for the XTERRA Colorado Trail Run Series. Other races will follow in the spring and summer of 2012.
Colorado is one of 12 regions that will host an XTERRA Trail Run Series during the 2011-12 season. The others are Alabama, Arizona, Southern California, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Pocono, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
At the end of the season, the age-group champions from each region will receive free entry to the 2012 XTERRA Trail Run National Championship.
