Running, Cycling, Hiking and Climbing in the Pikes Peak Region

The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s Team Challenge is looking for a coach for its new half marathon training program.  The training season will begin on August 25, 2012 and conclude at the Las Vegas Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon on December 2, 2012.  Participants will include beginners to experienced walkers and runners and they need your help and guidance!

The perfect candidate will have: Coaching certification, or in lieu of that, at least 4 marathons under their belt; a solid understanding of fueling, hydration and training strategies for runners and walkers; and, a passion to help others achieve their goals in the sport.  Coaching certification is not a requirement for the position because supervision can be provided by a national coach.  The Colorado Springs coach will have a lot of autonomy to run the training and team throughout the season, however.

This is a paid position and a great opportunity to try your hand at coaching, to help others in the sport, and to contribute to a great cause.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Attend and 5 information meetings (August 8, 11, 15, 16, and 21 ) to speak about training program
  • Develop weekly training schedules for participants to run a half marathon at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels (with guidance from national coach, if needed)
  • Lead group training sessions in and around Colorado Springs on Saturday mornings over a 14 week training program
  • Assist staff and participants as necessary during event weekend (December 1 – 3, 2012) and ensure that all participants finish their race safely
