I have not done this particular ride, but I did ride to the summit from Glenn Cove many years ago in the Colorado State games.
Bottom line, you can't really know what Pikes Peak will throw at you.
Sunday's weather in Colorado Springs is supposed to be high 80s, so I would expect sunshine and a temperature of 45 degrees (give or take) at the summit when you arrive at approx. 7:30 a.m. - 8 a.m. I would expect temps in the low 50s when you start at 6 a.m. Temps should warm up along the route, before cooling in the higher elevations.
The wind on top of Pikes Peak is unpredictable and could provide for some wind chill. The time I rode to the top, it was a little cold coming down the mountain.
I'd bring a summer kit, along with a light layer and a wind breaker. You may not need the layers - or you may be extremely grateful that you brought them.

Permalink Reply by Tim Bergsten on July 12, 2012 at 8:53am Just a thought. That rain probably won't show up until you're long gone off the mountain. It's going to be a beautiful, sunny, slightly cool morning for you!
